What is XM?
Audio Format Description
XM, which stands for ‘extended module’, is the module file type
introduced by Triton’s Fast Tracker 2. It has the file extension of ‘.xm’.
XM files are larger than MOD files as they contain more audio channels
and 16-bit samples. They also contain more layers of instruments with
volume and panning envelopes. XM is the most popular module file type
today as it is the most compact and well compressed.
